IT ALL STARTS WITH AN ORIGIN STORY
No other words can capture the Giving Group’s origin story better. How else could three little statements ignite a movement that would lead to an incredibly joyful event that supported four local charities, who, because of the global pandemic found it difficult to support their own causes.
We are humbled to say that the event raised over $10,000 in less than three weeks and as a result, the following charities received $2500 each: Childhood Leukemia Warriors, Woodfield Area Children’s Organization, District 54 Foundation, and Family Forward.
Magical!
In September of 2021, a group of us were enjoying a Schaumburg Boomer’s Baseball game at Wintrust Stadium when one remarked, “It would be fun to play a softball game on this field.”
Another chimed in “A charity softball game!”
Then another concluded: “What about a kickball game to support local charities?”
That was it – a committee was formed and on Oct 14th we were standing on a baseball diamond in Schaumburg watching the inaugural Kickball for Kids event unfold.
There were food trucks, a DJ, a silent auction, an after-party comedy show, and adults simply forgetting about their day-to-day lives to experience the pure JOY of playing a child’s game.
And if that wasn’t magical enough, the JOY of giving kept giving, when the winner of the 50/50 raffle donated their proceeds, and the winning kickball team ended the event by donating enough to ensure we reached our goal of $10,000 - what a night it was!
It was evident that giving is the source of true joy and that the joy of giving is for everyone because everyone has something to give – the Giving Group was officially born!
